Poland and Sweden strengthen the dialogue on agriculture and food trade

18.02.2026

The future of the Common Agricultural Policy and food security were the major topics of the meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski and the Minister of Rural Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Kullgren. The talks in Warsaw were held during the visit of the Swedish delegation to Poland, related to the Swedish Food Business Days event, and they become a part of the wider context of Polish-Swedish economic cooperation as well as the dialogue on the challenges facing European agriculture.

Poland and Sweden strengthen dialogue on agriculture and food trade

The talks confirmed that cooperation between Poland and Sweden in the area of agriculture and the food sector was steadily becoming increasingly important.

Common challenges of European agriculture

Minister Stefan Krajewski stressed that Poland and Sweden, despite different structures of agricultural production, faced very similar challenges that day.

– Agriculture all over Europe is functioning in the conditions of increasing uncertainty – both economic and geopolitical. In such realities, cooperation and exchange of experiences between the Member States become particularly important – said the Minister.

The Minister indicated that food security remained one of the key priorities of the common EU policy.

– Today, the stable production of food and the resilience of the agricultural sector is not only a matter of the market but of broadly understood national security – added Stefan Krajewski.

Future of the Common Agricultural Policy

The Ministers also discussed the directions of amendments to the Common Agricultural Policy post-2027.

– Poland has consistently opted for a strong and stable Common Agricultural Policy. Farmers need predictable rules that will allow them to make long-term investment decisions – emphasised the Minister.

Stefan Krajewski pointed out that future solutions should maintain the Community nature of agricultural policy.

– The CAP must still guarantee a level playing field and stable income for agricultural producers across the European Union – he stressed.

European Union enlargement

The Ministers also discussed issues related to the future enlargement of the European Union to include Ukraine.

– Poland supports the integration of Ukraine with the European Union but this process requires appropriate preparations and solutions that will guarantee the stability of agricultural markets. The European Union enlargement will have long-term consequences for the whole Common Agricultural Policy, therefore, a realistic and responsible approach to this process is so important – said the Minister.

Swedish Food Business Days

The visit of the Swedish delegation to Poland was accompanied by the promotional event – Swedish Food Business Days. The inauguration of the event was attended by the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak, who, on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski, shared his thoughts on Polish-Swedish cooperation in the field of agriculture.

– Today, international cooperation and the development of trade relations in the food sector are of particular importance for the stability and competitiveness of European agriculture – he stressed.

During the event, Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak highlighted the importance of contacts between entrepreneurs.

– Industry meetings create a space for establishing real business relations and building long-term cooperation – he said.

Cooperation that matters

Minister Stefan Krajewski assessed the meeting as an important element of the developing bilateral dialogue.

– Poland and Sweden conduct a constructive dialogue on issues essential to agriculture and rural areas. Such talks are conducive to a better understanding of positions and strengthening cooperation – he emphasised.
