Polish-German talks before the AGRIFISH meeting

09.12.2025

On 9 December 2025, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski talked online with the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity of the Federal Republic of Germany Alois Rainer.

Main

The subject of the consultation was fishing quotas for 2026 to be set at the meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) in Brussels on 11-12 December 2025.

Position of Poland

For Poland, it is essential to develop solutions in the EU forum that are aimed at securing national fishing rights in the North-East Atlantic area.

In view of the information received from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) as regards the poor state of the blue whiting and mackerel stocks in this area, it is necessary to adopt measures allowing to manage stocks in a reasonable manner. The decisions on stocks should be made taking into account the best available scientific advice and socio-economic aspects of fisheries.

The Polish Minister also drew particular attention to the need to maintain the proportionality of the protection measures proposed by the EC for common sole, particularly important from the point of view of its wide impact on other fish species, and thus affecting the economic situation of fishermen.

Joint opinion

The discussion will be continued at the EU Council of Ministers meeting in Brussels. In the EU forum, the Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Germany will jointly promote the interests of the fishing industry so as to ensure its stable economic situation and predictable conditions for pursuing activities.

Common objective

The objective is to ensure food security and competitiveness.
