The AGRIFISH Council in Brussels is discussing the simplification of the future CAP and fishing opportunities for 2026
11.12.2025
Reaching political agreement on two Commission's proposals concerning next year's fishing opportunities in the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea, as well as a debate on potential innovation and simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2027 were on the agenda of the two-day AGRIFISH Council meeting that was started today in Brussels. The Polish delegation is represented by the Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski and the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak.
– Of course, we opt for simplifying the CAP, because the proposed provisions are overregulated and difficult for farmers to comply with. But we also want to continue talks about financing, as this is an important issue for the future of Polish agriculture. We have a lot of challenges and needs, so we cannot agree to fight for those funds later. So far, separate financing has guaranteed the development of agriculture and processing, therefore, our goal is a strong, common and well-financed CAP post-2027 with a multiannual financial framework that supports the competitiveness and development of farmers – said Minister Stefan Krajewski.
The Polish position is supported by the majority of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Member States. The opportunities for maintaining a strong, Community CAP, which guarantees food security and stability of farmers’ income, were discussed today by Minister Stefan Krajewski also at a meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the states belonging to the largest group in the European Parliament – the European People’s Party (EPP).
On the first day of the AGRIFISH Council meeting, the Council will analyse the critical situation on the European milk market and once again discuss the issue of intervention purchase.
– Unfortunately, we still have purchase prices from 15 years ago, so this is not a mechanism that the Member States can use in difficult situations. I will draw the Ministers’ attention to the need to quickly align those prices – said Minister Krajewski just before the debate.
The plan of the Polish delegation also included a meeting with the Presidium of Copa Cogeca. Minister Stefan Krajewski will talk with Lennart Nilsson, President of Copa Cogeca and its Vice-President Nikolas Berlakovich about transparent trade agreements that protect the most sensitive sectors and our production standards, and about regulations that provide farmers and agricultural cooperatives with legal stability.
