La Pologne en Algérie

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Algeria is delighted to present to you the winning films of the “Poland in the EU” Short-Films Competition organized in May 2025 to celebrate Poland’s presidency of the EU Council from January 2025 to June 2025.

The committee chose the film “ ART BLOCK,’ realized by Mohamed Dia Djaballah and Saadallah Akram, as the winning film. This work tells the story of an artist who has lost his creativity. Struggling with a creative block, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, seeking inspiration in the rich artistic history and cultural connections between Algeria and Poland. The film highlights the rich artistic connection between Algeria and Poland that continues till today. It shows how these cross-cultural exchanges, supported by initiatives like the EU’s Erasmus program, can reignite artistic inspiration and foster new forms of collaboration.

The committee decided to award two distinction awards to two other participants who submitted outstanding works. They are:

• Yassine Abdel Ilah Benzaidi for his short film “ The Journey of Change.”  This short film encapsulates Poland’s evolution from a time of struggle to its vibrant future after joining the European Union. The story opens with a girl, symbolizing Poland, carrying a basket of apples—representing the nation’s heritage. As she walks, she stumbles and falls, mirroring the hardships Poland faced before EU membership. A university professor serves as a witness throughout the film, providing commentary on life before joining the European Union, emphasizing the challenges and uncertainty that marked that era.
• Rayan Oulad Daoud for his film “ A Story Still Being Written.” This short documentary offers a concise and powerful account of the evolving relationship between Algeria and Poland, set against the backdrop of Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2004. Through the eyes of a young Algerian, the film opens with an actual television broadcast and then deepens into historical reflection, guided by a calm and informative voiceover. It explores the diplomatic, economic, cultural, and educational relations between the two nations. In the end, the young Algerian chooses to embark on his own journey by studying in Poland.

L'Ambassade de la République de Pologne en Algérie a le plaisir de vous présenter les films gagnants du concours de courts métrages « La Pologne dans l'UE», organisé en mai 2025 pour célébrer la présidence polonaise du Conseil de l'UE, qui s'étend de janvier 2025 à juin 2025.

Le jury a choisi le film « ART BLOCK », réalisé par Mohamed Dia Djaballah et Saadallah Akram, comme film gagnant. Cette œuvre raconte l'histoire d'un artiste qui a perdu sa créativité. Confronté à un blocage créatif, il se lance dans un voyage de découverte de lui-même, cherchant l'inspiration dans la riche histoire artistique et les liens culturels entre l'Algérie et la Pologne. Le film met en lumière la richesse des liens artistiques entre l'Algérie et la Pologne, qui perdurent jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Il montre comment ces échanges interculturels, soutenus par des initiatives telles que le programme Erasmus de l'UE, peuvent raviver l'inspiration artistique et favoriser de nouvelles formes de collaboration.

Le jury a décidé de décerner deux prix de distinction à deux autres participants ayant présenté des travaux remarquables. Il s'agit de :

• Yassine Abdel Ilah Benzaidi, pour son court métrage « The Journey of Change ». Ce court métrage retrace l'évolution de la Pologne, passant d'une période de lutte à un avenir dynamique après son adhésion à l'Union européenne. L'histoire s'ouvre sur une jeune fille, symbole de la Pologne, qui porte un panier de pommes, représentant l'héritage de la nation. En marchant, elle trébuche et tombe, illustrant les difficultés rencontrées par la Pologne avant son adhésion à l'Union européenne. Un professeur d'université sert de témoin tout au long du film, commentant la vie avant l'adhésion, et soulignant les défis et l'incertitude qui ont marqué cette époque.

Ce court documentaire offre un récit concis et puissant de l'évolution des relations entre l'Algérie et la Pologne, avec pour toile de fond l'adhésion de la Pologne à l'Union européenne en 2004. À travers les yeux d'un jeune Algérien, le film s'ouvre sur une émission de télévision réelle, puis approfondit une réflexion historique, guidée par une voix off calme et informative. Il explore les relations diplomatiques, économiques, culturelles et éducatives entre les deux nations. À la fin, le jeune Algérien décide de poursuivre ses études en Pologne, entamant ainsi son propre voyage.
