5th Conference of the Scientific-Clinical Consortium in Szczecin

Last weekend, on June 23rd and 24th, 2023, the 5th conference of the scientific-clinical consortium was held in Szczecin. This consortium consists of the National Medical Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (PIM MSWiA), the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 2 PUM in Szczecin, and the F. Chopin University Clinical Hospital in Rzeszów.

During this year's conference, representatives from the PIM MSWiA, namely Radosław Smoczyński, M.D., delivered a speech titled 'Advancements in Robotic Surgery Techniques in Cardiac Surgery,' and Grzegorz Witkowski, M.D., presented on the 'Experience of the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery and Transplantology in the Field of Robotic Surgery.'

The primary objective of the consortium is to foster the development of robotic surgery in the country through collaboration with institutions responsible for optimizing conditions for robotic systems in Polish hospitals, such as the Ministry of Health (MZ), the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tarification (AOTMiT), and the National Health Fund (NFZ).

One of the consortium's initial successes in enhancing the functioning of robotic surgery in Poland was the inclusion of robotic radical prostatectomy procedures in the basket of guaranteed benefits, starting from April 2022. The consortium hospitals played a crucial role in advocating for this important advancement.
