D-Type national visa

Where to apply?

If you have a valid residence permit issued by the Republic of Cyprus you can apply at the consular office in Nicosia.

Do I have to apply in person?

Visa application form must be submitted in person. Diplomatic mission does not accept application forms sent via fax, regular mail or e-mail.

How to book an appointment?

In order to apply for a national visa, please book your appointment via the e-konsulat system. Remember to apply for a visa no later than 15 calendar days before the planned departure.

NOTE - When registering, enter precisely requested data contained in the documents you intend to submit. Data entered in the application need to be consistent with the data contained in the documents (also in terms of spelling).

In order to book an appointment:

1.  go to the e-konsulat system;

2.  in the “Menu” select "National visa - register form", then select your option (application for a work visa or application for another type of national visa) and confirm that you accept the rules for submitting the application:

-    if you select "National visa - work", fill in the provisionary visa application containing your basic data and the details of your work permit in Poland. If the details entered are correct, you will receive an email with a link to complete the visa application (you will have 48 hours to do it). Complete the application, save it and print it. If the data are not positively verified or the application is not completed within 48 hours, the registration will be canceled;

-    if you select "National visa - others", choose the date of your visit, complete the visa application, save it and print it.

3.  If the number of applicants is greater than the number of available places, appointments will be made by electronic drawing. The appointment dates for visa cases are drawn by the e-konsulat system every Saturday. Employees of consular offices cannot interfere with this process. After the drawing, you will receive information about its results and:

-    if your application has been drawn, you will receive information about the date of the appointment;

-    if your application has not been selected, it is canceled and you need to repeat the application process from the beginning.

All information, confirmation and links are automatically sent to the e-mail address you’ve given at the beginning.

On the agreed date you shall come to the consular office with a printed and signed visa application form, original work permit and a complete set of necessary documents.

What documents do I need to submit? 

1.    A visa application form filled via the e-konsulat system, printed and signed;

2.    A 3.5 x 4.5 cm colour photo. The photo must be:

       a.    sharp, taken against white background and printed on a quality paper,

       b.    newer than 6 months,

       c.    taken en face, clearly showing the eyes and face on both sides from the top of the head to the top of the shoulders with the face covering 70-80% of the photo. The photo must be taken without any headwear.

3.    Passport issued within last ten years, valid for at least three months from the expected return date, with at least two blank pages for visas.

4.    A copy of the passport page with personal data and the photo. 

5.    A person applying for a national visa shall personally submit a document confirming the possession of travel medical insurance, referred to in the Article 25 (1) (2) (a) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners or a document confirming the possession of health insurance within the meaning of the Act of 27 August 2004 on health care services financed from public funds. Travel medical insurance with the minimum coverage of 30.000,- EUR, must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay of the foreigner on the territory of the Republic of Poland, covering all costs, that may arise during the stay in this territory, of any urgent medical assistance, emergency hospital treatment or repatriation for medical reasons as well as - in case of death - repatriation of the deceased. The insurer provides a 24/7 Assistance Provision Centre (Call Centre) and undertakes to cover the costs of health services directly to the entity providing these services, on the basis of an invoice issued by this entity.

6.    ID document to confirm residence within the consular district of your application.

7.    Proof that you have enough means of subsistence in the form decided by the mission.

8.    A proof of accommodation (for example, an official invitation or a hotel booking or reservation).

9.    Flight itinerary (reservation only).

10.  Documents confirming the purpose of your stay Poland.

Additionally, when applying for a visa for a minor you should present:

  • Written consent of the child’s/minor’s parent(s) to apply for a visa, confirmed by a notary. If there is only one guardian, it should be proved by a birth certificate, a court decision on exclusive parental custody or a death certificate of the other parent.

  • Originals and copies of parents' passports.

  • An original and a copy of a birth certificate.

If the child is entered in the parent's or legal guardian’s passport, please submit a separate visa application.  The visa will be pasted into the parent's or the legal guardian's passport.

Additionally, when applying for a national visa - employment

  • Applicant’s covering letter (purpose and duration of travel, list of attached documents, other useful information)

  • Valid work permit

  • Original employment letter from the applicant's employer in Poland on the official company paper with stamp, signature and date, clearly mentioning: full address and contact details of the company, the name and position of the countersigning officer, details regarding the employment of the applicant (e.g. position, salary, estimated duration), details regarding additional conditions of employment (e.g. accommodation, transport, living expenses).

  • Documents attesting education / professional skills / work experience (optional)

Additionally, when applying for a national visa - study

  • Applicant’s covering letter (purpose and duration of travel)

  • The original of the certificate of the unit conducting the studies on admission to studies (format set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education from Sept. 23rd, 2019)

  • Proof of payment for studies issued by the educational institution.

  • Documents attesting previous education

  • Documents confirming financial resources (of applicant or sponsor*)) sufficient to cover all travel, living and accommodation expenses, issued no more than one month before submission of the visa application (traveler’s cheque, a certificate of the amount of the credit card limit issued by the bank issuing the credit card, a certificate of availability of money in a bank located on the territory of the Republic of Poland, any other EU member state, EFTA member state or the Swiss Confederation, a document confirming granting of a national or foreign scholarship, a certificate of employment with monthly salary statement).

*) Letter of sponsorship certified by a notary and documents confirming relationship with the sponsor (e.g. family ties) – all legalized /attested/apostilled by MFA and – if required - by a Polish consulate in the country of origin.

 

Applicant applying for a national visa for study must provide a document confirming that he/she has sufficient financial resources to cover:

A. The minimum cost of return to the country of origin in the amount of 2500 PLN (refers to a country not neighbouring EU/EFTA countries).

B. Living expenses covering the planned stay: the required minimum for each month of the planned stay is 701 PLN (528 PLN per person in the family if applicant will stay in Poland with family members).

C. Cost of accommodation (tenancy agreement, decision on the provision of a dormitory etc.).

Please note:

  • You must apply for a visa in a consular office or the embassy’s consular department in the consular district of your place of residence 

  • Usually, the above documents are enough to receive a visa, however, the consul may require additional documents.

  • The consul may, but does not have to, invite the applicant for an interview.

  • The D-type visas allow to stay in other Schengen states for 90 days of any 180-day period. It means that you can legally stay in the Schengen Area only if your stay was shorter than 90 days over the past 180 days.  

  • The D-type visa is valid for a maximum of one year.

  • Please note, that receiving the visa does not guarantee that you will enter Poland - the final decision is always made by the Border Guard.

How much does it cost? 

The visa fee is 80 EUR.

The fees must be paid at the office counter when submitting the application.

Accepted forms of payment: cash.

The visa application fee is non-returnable, whatever the consul's decision.

What is the waiting time?

The decision on the issue of a visa is made within 15 working days from the payment date of application fee. If the documents need to be examined in more detail, the consideration period may be extended to 30 days. In urgent and justified cases, the decision can be made in three working days.

How to collect the documents?

Our consular staff will inform you about the collection date during your first appointment. The collection of visa decisions does not require booking an appointment.

If you miss your collection date, you can come later, any Monday at 14:00-15:00.

How to appeal?

In case of a negative decision, you will be informed in writing. The document will include the reasons for the refusal.

If you received a visa refusal, you have the right to apply for a reconsideration of the visa application within 14 days from the date when you received the refusal decision.

To apply for a reconsideration, you do not need to register for an appointment in our online system. Simply come to the Embassy on Monday between 11:00 and 12:00 and submit your documents. If you cannot come on this day, please send us an email and we will offer you an alternative date. 

The application fee in this case is 80 EUR.
