Construction industry after COVID-19

07.09.2020

The construction industry as one of the main drivers for the EU recovery was the topic of a Polish-Danish seminar held at Dansk Industri

Construction sector - webinar 07.09.2020

On 7 September 2020 the Embassy of Poland in Copenhagen together with the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI - Dansk Industri) organized a webinar about the role of the construction sector in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery and the perspectives for closer cooperation between Denmark and Poland in that regard. The representatives of various institutions took part in the discussion, including Peter Stenholm, Director DI Dansk Byggeri, Stina Soewarta, Head of the EU Representation in Denmark, Lina Gandløse Hansens, Head of Export, Innovation and Global Public Affairs, Trade Council at MFA, Gunde Odgaard, General Secretary of BAT, the Federation of Building and Construction Workers Unions, 3F, Stefan Reinel, Partner at Njordlaw and the Polish Ambassador Henryka Mościcka Dendys.

All participants shared the opinion that infrastructure projects will have a major socio-economic impact in the post-COVID 19 recovery, which was also reflected in the shape of the new multiannual budget and the EU’s Recovery Fund adopted by the European Council in July. Already before the pandemic, the construction sector provided 18 million direct jobs generating about 9% of the EU's GDP.

Furthermore, the participants discussed incentives aimed at enhancing mobility on the single market. “Mobility has an important and positive impact on our economies and labour markets. Thus, we need is more dialogue, more cooperation and further removal of the still existent barriers on the EU’s single market” – underlined Ambassador Henryka Mościcka-Dendys. The panelists looked at the challenges for the construction industry seen from the perspective of Polish and Danish companies. It was stressed that the jobs, growth and investments depend on good regulations both on national and EU level.

For Ambassador Henryka Mościcka-Dendys it was the last seminar concluding her 5-year mission to Denmark. She thanked all the partners for excellent Polish-Danish cooperation in the business sector.
