Discussion on Poland as part of the Charlottenborg Salon
14.08.2026
Poland's democratic transformation, its growing role in European and transatlantic security, and the perspectives of Central and Eastern Europe were among the key themes discussed during an event held as part of the Charlottenborg Salon in Copenhagen.
The Embassy had the pleasure of co-hosting “The Overlooked Stories in Europe’s Narrative” as part of the Charlottenborg Salon. Drawing inspiration from the exhibition by Polish artist and activist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas, the event created a space for reflection on Europe’s shared history and the perspectives that have often remained underrepresented in mainstream narratives.
The discussion featured Head of Mission Ewa Dębska, historian Steen Andersen and journalist Matilde Kimer. Together, they explored Poland’s place in Europe’s evolving story, examining both its complex historical experiences and its remarkable transformation over the past decades.
Particular attention was given to the perspectives of Central and Eastern Europe and their importance for understanding contemporary developments on the continent. The speakers reflected on Poland’s growing role in European affairs, its contribution to NATO’s collective security and the challenges facing Europe in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment.
The evening demonstrated how art can inspire meaningful dialogue on history, identity and current challenges. By bringing together different perspectives and experiences, the event contributed to a broader understanding of Europe’s shared heritage and the diverse voices that continue to shape it.
We would like to thank all speakers and guests for participating in this inspiring discussion and for contributing to an engaging exchange of ideas.
