During a meeting with his counterpart Marta Gordon and the head of Panama’s diplomacy Erica Mouynes, the undersecretary of state at the Polish MFA discussed the global impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, including food security, and further enhancement of relations between Poland and Panama, especially in the context of the oncoming 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

The consultations provided an opportunity to discuss key issues in bilateral relations, regarding both political cooperation and the vital areas of the economic agenda, and to analyse activity in the international fora. The undersecretary of state thanked Panama for its unequivocal condemnation of Russian aggression at the UN. He also underscored the need to provide continuous support to Kyiv, exert international pressure and show solidarity. He also highlighted that Russia’s completely unprovoked invasion of Ukraine not only has destabilised the security situation in our immediate neighbourhood, but has also affected global security issues. Deputy Minister Gordon appreciated the measures taken by the Polish government regarding care of the Ukrainian refugees. She also thanked for Warsaw’s readiness to support Panama in the efforts to adapt its domestic financial and taxation system to international standards.  Both sides agreed on the need to immediately launch negotiations on the Air Transport Agreement that would reflect Panama’s position as a transportation hub in Central America and Poland’s in Central and Eastern Europe.

The conversation with Panama’s top diplomat Erica Mouynes focused on the new geopolitical situation and the threats posed by Russia’s attempted return to neocolonial and imperialist policy. They discussed, among other issues, the need to fight the Russian narrative, particularly evident in Latin America. Deputy Minister Przydacz presented the measures taken by Polish authorities to mitigate the impact of the global food crisis caused by Russia’s military actions and blockade of Ukraine’s ports.

During his stay in Panama, the undersecretary of state met with the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Panama with whom he discussed the challenges faced by the global economy in the wake of the war waged by Russia. The deputy minister also showcased opportunities of enhancing Polish-Panamanian cooperation in trade and investments.
