Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński attends informal OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC OECD) Tidewater meeting

15.06.2022

Development at a Crossroads was the theme of this year’s Tidewater meeting of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC OECD) held in Switzerland on 14-15 June 2022. The agenda covered the unprecedented humanitarian needs, challenges related to the climate crisis, and funding development assistance.

Poland was represented by Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński. The undersecretary of state at the Polish MFA pointed to the global repercussions of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which have been affecting the least developed countries. He also stressed the scale of needs in Ukraine – humanitarian ones, as well as future needs related to the post-war reconstruction of the country.

The Development Assistance Committee (DAC), acting under the auspices of the OECD, is an international forum bringing together major development assistance donors. Currently, the Development Assistance Committee consists of 30 countries, including Poland, which joined the DAC in 2013. The OECD DAC’s role is to support development cooperation and policies which advance the Agenda for Sustainable Development, foster sustainable economic growth and better living conditions in developing countries, as well as work towards a world in which no country will be dependent on aid.

OECD DAC Tidewater meetings bring together ministers for development cooperation and heads of relief agencies. This type of meetings was named after the Tidewater Inn hotel in Maryland, which hosted the first such event in 1968. The Tidewater meetings address the most topical issues of development cooperation.
