On Tuesday, 18 May, the deputy head of Polish diplomacy took part in a discussion with the ministers and deputy ministers of foreign affairs and defence of the Czech Republic, Latvia, Germany, Poland and Hungary. The debate addressed security in the region, both in the context of the EU and NATO. The participants referred to increased cyber- and hybrid threats, including disinformation, originating mostly from the East. Underlined was the need to maintain strong transatlantic relations as well as to continue work within the EU and NATO to jointly perceive threats, also outside CEE. The participants also stressed the necessity to take joint actions in the region and strengthen the EU-NATO cooperation in order to effectively detect, counteract and respond to contemporary security threats.

Deputy Minister Przydacz underlined that Poland’s goal is to enhance the development of European defence initiatives in synergy with NATO as support – not an alternative – to strong transatlantic ties. He also noted that when discussing our security, we must not forget about energy security and the detrimental effect of the Nord Stream 2 project for regional security.
