The meeting was hosted by Head of the Foreign Service, Arkady Rzegocki, whose portfolio includes, among other things, the promotion of employment of Poles in international organisations. He pointed out that Professor Czepelak is a lawyer specialising in private international law and arbitration. The Head of the Foreign Service said he was convinced that the candidate’s academic expertise, combined with managerial and diplomatic experience, make him particularly well-suited to the position of Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

In his address, Ambassador Marcin Czepelak outlined the PCA’s goals since its establishment until the present day. He also presented his vision of the PCA’s functioning, paying special attention to ensuring wide acceptance of the concept of arbitration and to broadening the scope of services offered.

The Ambassador’s presentation encouraged the diplomats to engage actively in a Q&A session and ask numerous questions about Ambassador Czepelak’s advantage over his rivals for the SG position, differences between the PCA and other arbitrary institutions, the PCA’s importance and role nowadays, to name but a few.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration is the oldest international tribunal in the world. It was established in 1899 to facilitate arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between countries. The PCA’s Secretary-General co-ordinates and manages the PCA’s International Bureau which provides the Court with full range of services, including legal and administrative support during dispute resolution proceedings.
