Meeting of MFA Crisis Management Team on Brexit

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Polish diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway stand ready to assist Polish citizens in connection with the expiry of the transition period for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to leave the European Union. The MFA and Polish diplomatic missions, in cooperation with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and other ministries, have launched an intensive information campaign to prepare Poles for changes in the conditions of entry and stay in the United Kingdom and countries along the land route to the United Kingdom. Moreover, in key passenger and cargo ports, there will operate mobile consular teams which will provide effective consular assistance on the spot in the event of crisis situations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Polish diplomatic missions update their websites and social media on an ongoing basis, publishing information related to the end of the transition period, particularly:

  • information on the new rules for entry to the United Kingdom,
  • information on actions taken by host countries (including links to government websites dedicated to Brexit-related issues and contact points to competent authorities that can help deal with specific problems),
  • the most frequently asked questions and answers,
  • links to Polish government websites related to Brexit.

The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement was reached on 24 December 2020 and is currently at the ratification stage. From 1 January 2021, the Agreement will be applied on a provisional basis. Due to lack of time to comply with the full ratification procedure, the European Commission proposed to apply the Agreement on a provisional basis, until 28 February 2021.
