Jacek Czaputowicz held telephone calls with representatives of Albania, Slovakia and Sweden – countries that currently make up the OSCE Troika – to talk about the situation in Belarus.
“We must send the Belarusians a strong message that they are not alone and that they can count on the support of the international community,” said the chief of Polish diplomacy during a conversation with the head of Albanian government, Edi Rama who currently is the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. In this context, the Polish minister expressed his support for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe helping find a solution to the internal crisis in Belarus. “The interlocutors decided that the OSCE, of which the Republic of Belarus is a member, has a mandate and necessary instruments to create conditions for dialogue between the authorities and society.”
The chief of the Polish MFA told his interlocutor about actions that Warsaw takes at the European Union and about the Polish “Solidarity with Belarus” plan. He also informed about his conversation with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
During his talks with chiefs of diplomacy ofSlovakia, Ivan Korčok, and Sweden, Ann Lindh, Minister Czaputowicz expressed his unequivocal support for the OSCE’s involvement in helping Belarus. Both interlocutors agreed that it is urgent to define the parameters of the most efficient OSCE assistance.
Minister Czaputowicz noted that the international community should do everything in its power to help de-escalate tensions, stop violence and repressions by the authorities and bring about the release of all detained persons. Authorities in Minsk should understand that multilateral offers of assistance to create conditions to launch an intra-Belarusian dialogue are made out of friendliness towards Belarus and its citizens. The solution to the current crisis lies within Belarus and is its internal affair, but in order to reach such solution it is worth taking advantage of the OSCE’s friendly assistance.
Furthermore, the Polish and Swedish ministers summed up the results of today’s extraordinary meeting of the European Council on Belarus, which was held on the initiative of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The top diplomats confirmed that Warsaw and Stockholm are cooperating and will actively support a positive future of Belarus and its citizens. They also emphasised their unwavering support for Belarus’ sovereignty and independence.
