Initiated by Poland, the debate aims to draw particular attention of the international community to the protection of vulnerable groups, especially girls in the context of sexual violence and of persons with disabilities. The debate will be based on the UN Secretary-General’s annual report for 2018 on children involved in armed conflicts.

The debate will be attended by Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba and Executive Director of UNICEF Henrietta Fore. The representatives of civil society: UNICEF Canada’s Special Representative Mariatu Kamara, a survivor of the Sierra Leone conflict, and Majok Peter Awan, a former child soldier, will also take part in the meeting.

The debate with the participation of Minister Jacek Czaputowicz is set to be one of the highlights of Poland’s presidency of the UN Security Council, which it holds in August 2019.
