Poland's chief diplomat took part in today's event at the invitation of Belgium's ambassador to Poland Rik Van Droogenbroeck. Minister Sikorski paid close attention to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. He pointed to the need for greater European Union's military support for Kyiv and referred to Poland’s actions in this regard. He stressed that it is legitimate to seize the frozen Russian assets and to earmark them for Ukraine, and welcomed the first steps in this direction that are now being taken within the EU. He also backed further strengthening of sanctions against Russia, while underlining that it is necessary to prevent their circumvention. The head of the Polish MFA also spoke about the situation in Belarus and its military cooperation with Russia, as well as the need for continued support for the country's democratic opposition.

Minister Sikorski reaffirmed Poland’s unwavering support for the EU enlargement policy, as it comes to both Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, and the Western Balkans. Nevertheless, he noticed that the process should be based on substantive criteria.

Poland's top diplomat spoke in favour of further strengthening Europe's defence potential in the light of current challenges. He reassured his interlocutors that Warsaw remains an advocate of tightening of transatlantic cooperation and continuous strengthening of the EU-US relations.
