23.09.2022

On 18-23 September, Minister Zbigniew Rau visited New York to participate in the high-level week that opened the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister Zbigniew Rau took part in high-level week opening 77th UN General Assembly session. Minister also participated in numerous bi- and multilateral meetings.

While in New York, the head of the Polish MFA accompanied President of Poland Andrzej Duda during the general debate of the 77th Session and selected meetings the President held on its margins. The agenda of the minister’s visit also included numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings, as well as many high-level events.

The issue of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was the key topic of Minister Rau’s meetings with his counterparts as well as consultations among allies. The subject was also covered during the EU foreign ministers’ meeting with the participation of High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, a meeting of EU and NATO heads of diplomacy, held at the initiative of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as during a Security Council session on the situation in Ukraine.

The head of the Polish MFA highlighted the need to ensure stability and predictability in international relations. The foreign minister expressed his deep concern over undermining the generally accepted norms and mutual commitments provided under international law. Minister Rau recalled that the Russian aggression requires a multidimensional and strong response of the international community. He argued that those guilty of violations of international law should be held accountable.

The New York visit was also an opportunity for Minister Rau to emphasise the importance that Poland attaches to the adherence to human rights.
