The appointment of Poland’s Permanent Representative to ICAO was possible under the arrangements between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which were laid out in an agreement between the two institutions, concluded on 25 September. On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document was signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński. The CAA was represented by its President, Piotr Samson.

 - As we understand the urgent need to take the cooperation with ICAO to another level, together with the CAA we have devised a solution to increase our presence in the Organisation and better serve Polish interests, -  underlined Deputy Minister Jabłoński.  He also noted that the agreement was reached very quickly and expressed his belief that the MFA, the CAA and other entities from the aviation industry will continue to work together harmoniously in the future. Some of the issues to be raised and supported by Poland in the Organisation will be the Solidarity Transport Hub, the expansion of LOT Polish Airlines over recent years, the election of ICAO’s Secretary General, and the need to strengthen the position of Poland and its aviation sector on a global scale through active participation in ICAO. With the agreement on Poland’s presence in ICAO, the foreign service, in particular its economic diplomacy, embraces new tasks in the area of aviation diplomacy. It will be beneficial for the Polish aviation sector and the related branches of the economy.  - The tasks of the newly appointed Polish Permanent Representative to ICAO will reflect Poland’s strategic goals, Polish government policy, and the interests of Polish companies and other entities linked with the aviation industry, -  said the deputy head of Polish diplomacy.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation is a specialised UN agency established under the Convention on International Civil Aviation signed in Chicago on 7 December 1944. Its headquarters is in Montreal, Canada. ICAO cooperates with 193 member states and stakeholder groups.
