Polish - Indonesian bilateral consultations

18.03.2019

“Indonesia plays an important role in Southeast Asia. We hope to be able to forge closer cooperation between Asian and European countries in the UN Security Council,” said Deputy Minister Piotr Wawrzyk during his talks with Director General at the Indonesian MFA Muhammad Anshor.

During their meeting, they discussed cooperation in the UN Security Council, where the two countries are non-permanent members. “We appreciate Jakarta’s efforts to increase international peace and security through its membership in the UN Security Council and participation in UN missions in Africa and the Middle East,” said the Polish deputy foreign minister.

They also discussed the Middle East Peace Process, the role and operation of UN peacekeeping missions in which Indonesia is one of the biggest participants. Their talks also focused on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts – a priority theme during the Polish term on the UN Security Council.

Other subjects raised during the meeting included bilateral political and economic cooperation. Preparations for next year’s 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Indonesia were also discussed.  “In 2020, our two countries will be celebrating the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations which will be an opportunity to give our cooperation a new impulse,” noted Deputy Minister Wawrzyk. “We expect that the anniversary celebrations will be supplemented by a visit at the highest level,” he added.

Today’s talks represent another high-level meeting between Poland and Indonesia. Minister Jacek Czaputowicz visited Jakarta in November 2018. The chief of Polish diplomacy also met with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsurdi, in Geneva at the end of February this year.
