Poland in the EU

Countries bordering Russia are increasingly concerned about the substantial and growing influx of Russian citizens to the European Union and the Schengen area through our borders. We believe that this is becoming a serious threat to our public security and to the overall shared Schengen area.

During the European Council meeting, the heads of state and government of the EU Member States discussed, inter alia, support for Ukraine and the applications for EU membership submitted by Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. On the sidelines of the summit, an informal meeting was held between leaders of the EU and the Western Balkan countries. Poland was represented by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the EU's relations with Egypt and the Horn of Africa region were the main topics of today's Foreign Affairs Council meeting. Poland was represented by Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.

During a special meeting of the European Council, Heads of State and Government discussed Russian aggression against Ukraine, energy issues, defence and food security. The leaders also held a video-conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski.

The Minister of National Defence, Mariusz Blaszczak, participated in a meeting of the heads of defence ministries of the European Union. During the meeting, issues of implementation of the EU Strategic Compass in terms of improving the effectiveness of the Union's missions and operations were, among others, discussed. A discussion on the situation in Ukraine was held with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.

During the European Council, EU Heads of State and Government held a discussion on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The leaders had the opportunity to exchange views with US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski. On the second day of the meeting, leaders discussed energy, the EU economy and the Covid-19 pandemic. Poland was represented by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended a two-day meeting of EU heads of states and governments in Versailles. EU leaders held a discussion on the situation in Ukraine and security related to EU defence and energy policy. In addition, EU leaders discussed further EU economic development and a new European growth model.

In recent days, false information about the alleged mistreatment of particular countries citizens by Polish and Ukrainian services has appeared in the public space. Manipulated photos and videos circulate on social media to discredit and tarnish the image of both Ukraine and Poland. The media have become another theatre of war, which is why we urge you not to be manipulated. The target of disinformation attacks is not only Ukraine, but also the Western world.
