The head of the Polish government took part in video consultations of a group of EU leaders with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, during which the PM raised issues related to the current international situation, including in Belarus and Russia. The VTC was attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country holds the presidency of the EU Council, and the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Latvia, Malta and Sweden.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki raised issues related to the current situation in Belarus and Russia with EU leaders. In this context, the head of the Polish government referred to the recent poisoning of the oppositionist A. Navalny and casted doubts about the future of the Nord Stream 2 gas project. The Prime Minister also informed EU leaders about his meeting with S. Cichanouska, P. Latuszka and W. Kawalkawa and Poland's support for the Belarusian people.

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, began consultations with the leaders of EU countries to facilitate the agreement of positions ahead of the European Council meeting on September 24-25. The summit is planned to include a strategic debate among EU leaders on relations with Turkey.

In addition to the EU's foreign policy (trade relations with China, policy towards Turkey, and the latest developments in the eastern dimension of the neighborhood policy), the European Council will also focus on economic issues (including the internal market, efforts to recover after the COVID-19 crisis, digital agenda and industrial policy). During the EUCO, PM Morawiecki will also raise the need for a continued EU support in relation to the situation in Belarus.
