107 years in the service of working people. The anniversary of the establishment of the State Labour Inspection

30.01.2026

On 30 January 2026, the conference "At the turn of the centuries” was held, organised jointly by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy and the Sejm of the Republic of Poland during the celebration of the 107th anniversary of the State Labour Inspection (PIP). This is an important anniversary for the institution that has been promoting the safety and rights of working people for more than a century. Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk recalled that the PIP is "a sign of continuity and strength of the State of Poland” and its role is to "safeguard civilisational achievements in the field of labour protection”.

107 years in the service of working people. The anniversary of the establishment of the State Labour Inspection

Conference participants emphasised that the Inspectorate, established on 3 January 1919, had gone through various eras and challenges together with Poland. It invariably remains an institution that cares about working people and helps in resolving workplace disputes based on law, knowledge and experience.

The event was attended by Marshal of the Sejm - Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy - Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Chief Labour Inspector - Marcin Stanecki, Director General of the Office of the Marshal of the Sejm - Bartosz Machalica, Director General of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy - Liwiusz Laska.

Shared responsibility for the labour market

The conference was the opportunity to remind that the strong labour market relies on the security, stability and equal treatment. These are the values that the Inspection has been consistently protecting - from the early years of independence, through the time of the great transition, up to the present day.

Labour protection is not an abstract slogan, but a concrete concept: safe working conditions, fair employment rules and effective enforcement of the law. In her speech, the Minister of Labour, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz‑Bąk, highlighted the importance of strengthening the Labour Inspection at a time when some employees still do not enjoy full protection under labour law.

Different types of contracts divide Polish workers into better and worse, into those protected by labour law and those without such protection. For years, inspectors have been warning that the system does not adequately protect the vast majority of Polish workers. I share these views and I strive to provide inspectors with new effective tools for action.
Strengthening the Inspectorate, and thus strengthening and making the protection of Polish workers more realistic, is the necessary, important and good future.

– Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk emphasised.

Recognition of the daily work of inspectors

The celebration of the 107th anniversary of the State Labour Inspection is also a moment to express gratitude for the daily service of labour inspectors continuing for more than a century - for their professionalism and commitment to building a safe, modern and fair labour market.

It is thanks to the PIP that the achievements of civilisation in the field of occupational safety have been defended for decades. You are part of this institution and this tradition. Thank you for your work for Polish workers, for Polish citizens, for your work for the Republic of Poland

- Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk said.
