19.10.2022

As part of the 3rd Demographic Congress 2021-2022 “Poland in the 21st Century – Demographic Challenges”, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister held the “Fertility Determinants” conference, attended by Minister Marlena Maląg and Deputy Minister Barbara Socha.

Conference “Fertility determinants” with the participation of the top officials from the Ministry of Family and Social Policy

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki sent a letter to the participants of the conference. “A robust cooperation of all generations and specialists in various fields is needed to design a long-term effective programme to increase the fertility rate in Poland, a programme that future parents will trust” – wrote the head of the government.

Encourage the young

In her speech, Minister Marlena Maląg pointed out that running a stable and consistent pro-family policy was a challenge that the Law and Justice government had been responding to from the beginning. Young people need to know that they can count on state support. The document entitled “Demographic Strategy 2040” shows how to support Polish families, increase their role, and eliminate obstacles they encounter.

We must encourage young people to set up families, because this is where Poland’s future lies – said the minister.

In this case any outlays are not a cost, but an investment for the future. Talking about the priorities in this area, the minister mentioned the development of housing with a guarantee of own contribution, care for children up to three years of age with a network of nurseries and financial support, and a friendly labour market with flexible working hours as well as remote and hybrid work.

According to Minister Marlena Maląg, success can be achieved through dialogue with local governments, employers and non-governmental organisations, and the “Demographic Strategy 2040” will be a road map making it possible to accomplish the goal.

Eliminate barriers

Barbara Socha, Government Plenipotentiary for Demographic Policy, noted that the “Strategy” is a response to demographic trends and their consequences. She reminded that according to all studies, young people have family aspirations – 98 percent of them wants to have children.

It is enough to enable them to do so by eliminating barriers – added Deputy Minister Socha.
