01.10.2020

2020 will be the fifth anniversary of launching the Senior+ programme. We wish to remind you that the Programme establishes a network of houses and clubs for senior citizens. The facilities offer a variety of activities: ranging from helping with daily activities, to providing at least one meal, meeting with school students, to physical activities and active participation in cultural life.

777 “Senior+” institutions which offer over 19 thousand places for seniors were established between 2015 and 2019. Since 2018, the annual budget of the programme amounts to PLN 80 million.

We hold evidence of the importance and the necessity to implement these programmes. We will continue the implementation of the programme, albeit in a slightly modified formula – announced Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

Pillars of senior policy

Minister Maląg reminded that the senior policy implemented by the United Right government is based on two pillars - financial support for seniors and programmes to activate the elderly. In the first case, this means the thirteenth pension, i.e. an additional, annual benefit for all pensioners. Since 2019, PLN 22.5 billion has been allocated for that purpose.

The “Senior Plus” and the Government Programme for Social Participation of Senior Citizens, which are expanding the range of courses for active seniors, constitute the second pillar of senior policy. The annual budget of the first programme amounts to PLN 80 million, and we allocate PLN 40 million to the Programme for Social Participation of Senior Citizens each year.

The programme is addressed to non-governmental organizations which run aimed at the elderly. We also intend to continue the programme in the upcoming years, as we wish to expand the offer for seniors in the years to come – said Stanisław Szwed, Deputy Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

The meeting held on Thursday at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy was attended by Joanna Borowiak, Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee for Senior Policy, Małgorzata Zwiercan, the former MP, and the current expert at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Prof. Jerzy Brown. Anna Wilmowska-Pietruszyńska from the Senior Policy Council and seniors from the Daily Senior House+ in Błonie.
