25.04.2022

Minister Marlena Maląg participated in the "#StandforUkraine panel. Companies you can count on”, organized during the European Economic Congress in Katowice.

European Economic Congress

The fact of the arrival of Ukrainian citizens to the territory of Poland may constitute a positive impulse for the Polish labor market - for example, by supplementing the existing shortages of employees in certain professions and industries - said Minister Maląg during the Congress.

Congress panels

The discussion panel: "#StandforUkraine. Companies you can count on." Was a chance to speak out for representatives of the government, business and non-governmental organizations. Its first part was devoted to the presentation of forms of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians by employers and companies on the Polish market. The guests discussed how to help effectively and exchanged experiences and good practices. The second part was devoted to figuring out answers to the following questions: What support does Ukraine and the Ukrainian economy need now and will need soon? How to cooperate for the benefit of Ukrainians in Poland? How to move from emergency care to long-term actions?

The number of employees is growing

Minister Marlena Maląg informed that, out of the number of refugees who escaped to Poland after the outbreak of the war, 90 thousand people have already found employment. She added that Ukrainians can register with the county labor offices, and thus - benefit from the services and instruments of the labor market, e.g. job placement, vocational counseling or trainings - including Polish lessons.

Due to the poor command of the Polish language, there is an urgent need to initiate large-scale language education for refugees from Ukraine. Knowledge of the Polish language at a communicative level will increase their chances of finding a job in Poland, especially in sales and services, emphasized Minister Maląg.

Education - fitting employment

Effective assimilation and professional activation of refugees also requires organization of training courses on the rights and obligations of employees and to provide institutional care for children. In the opinion of Minister Maląg, in the long run it can be expected that, along with the improvement of the knowledge of the Polish language and the recognition or acquisition of qualifications, refugees will more and more often take up employment in accordance with their education and skills.
