Minister Marlena Maląg proposed that Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia sign a joint declaration on assistance provided to Ukraine.

For the sake of Ukraine and world peace

On the initiative of Monika Navickienë, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of the Republic of Lithuania, a teleconference was held between ministers of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia and representatives of the Ministry of Estonia, responsible for labour and social security. It was devoted to the assistance these countries provide to Ukraine and its citizens and its coordination.

Minister Maląg spoke of Poland's commitment. Support is provided in two ways: humanitarian aid, coordinated by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and directed to Ukraine and the refugees arriving in our country, and long-term aid, which is the responsibility of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy.

Social security for refugees

- We have taken intensive measures to secure the living conditions of Ukrainian citizens coming to us, most of whom are women with small children - said Minister Maląg. - We aim to provide them with full social security.

Secretary of State Stanisław Szwed, who attended the meeting, pointed out that some of those arriving go to their families or friends, but some of them do not have such opportunities. - First, we provide them with accommodation and food, then we offer assistance programmes," explained Deputy Minister Szwed.

Opening up the labour market

Poland has already introduced simplified border crossing arrangements for refugees. Soon, legal residence in our country will mean unlimited access to the labour market. - We are in constant contact with employers, who declare to adjust their offers to the needs resulting from the predominance of women seeking employment," explained Deputy Minister Szwed.

Joint declaration

The ministers declared constant contact, exchange of information and cooperation in order to provide the best assistance. Minister Marlena Maląg emphasised the importance of joint action with other countries in our region, including applying for funds from the European Union. The ministers also approved the signing of a joint declaration on cooperation in providing assistance to Ukrainians. - I invite you to sign this document in Warsaw - said Minister Maląg. – For the sake of Ukraine and world peace.
