Monika Sikora appointed as the new Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People

Monika Sikora has been appointed as the Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Previously, she served as Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, where her responsibilities included the European Social Fund Plus, accessibility policy and selected areas of housing policy.
On 13 August 2026, Prime Minister Donald Tusk appointed Monika Sikora as the Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. In this capacity, she is responsible for coordinating government policy for people with disabilities, developing accessibility policy, and cooperating with civil society organisations, as well as national and international partners.
Who is Monika Sikora?
Monika Sikora comes from Katowice. She is a graduate of the London School of Economics, the College of Europe in Bruges and the Foreign Policy Studies at the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).
From January 2024 to August 2026, she served as Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy. Her responsibilities included the implementation of the European Social Fund Plus, supporting skills development and employment, improving the quality of education and measures to reduce social inequalities, as well as accessibility policy and selected areas of housing policy.
As Chair of the Accessibility Council, she was involved in developing systemic solutions to improve accessibility, including the Polish Accessibility Act and the Accessibility 2.0 programme. The Council brings together representatives from public administration, civil society organisations, the academic community and organisations representing people with disabilities.
She had previously gained professional experience in Brussels, London and Strasbourg, working in both the public and private sectors. Between 2019 and 2023, she served as an adviser at the European Parliament, where she was involved in the work of the Committee on Budgets, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, and the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. In 2022, she was named the best accredited assistant at the European Parliament by The Parliament Magazine.
Between 2022 and 2023, she represented Poland in the Marshall Memorial Fellowship programme organised by the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
