More and more citizens of Ukraine find a job in Poland

Thanks to the government special act, the citizens of Ukraine who came to Poland after 24 February can take up work without the need to obtain a special permit. As part of this simplified procedure, entrepreneurs have already employed 185 thousand persons since mid-March.

Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy has implemented a number of legislative and ICT solutions making it easier for the citizens of Ukraine to take up work in Poland. Today, we can see that these persons function very well in our labour market. Employing the citizens of Ukraine is a benefit for employees, employers and the entire economy – said  Minister Marlena Maląg.

Among the newly employed, women still predominate – out of 185 thousand employees, nearly 135 thousand are women.

Most citizens of Ukraine have recently found work in the Mazowieckie (41 thousand), Dolnośląskie (19.6 thousand), Wielkopolskie (18.3 thousand) and Śląskie (13.7 thousand) Voivodeships. The lowest number of employees were in the Świętokrzyskie (1.5 thousand), Podkarpackie (2.2 thousand) and Podlaskie (3.5 thousand) Voivodeships.

The labour market in Poland is doing very well despite the geopolitical situation in our region. The registered unemployment rate at the end of April 2022 amounted to 5.2% – it is a very good result that surprised many analysts. Employers are still reporting many vacancies and that is one of the reasons for which in the draft amendment to the Act on assistance to citizens of Ukraine, which has been recently adopted by the government, we proposed the introduction of further instruments making it easier for these persons to enter the Polish labour market – points out Minister Maląg.

The draft provides, inter alia, for implementing solutions facilitating access to Polish language training courses. Also, an appropriate standard of protecting the citizens of Ukraine in relation to their work in Poland will be ensured – the point is also to allow labour inspectors to carry out effective control activities in this regard.
