One of the greatest victories in the history of Poland. The hundredth anniversary of the Miracle of the Vistula

15.08.2020

The history of our country is filled with fights, battles and the blood of our ancestors. Some ended in painful failures, while others resulted in great triumph. That was also the case with the Battle of Warsaw. Today, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the event which was recognised as the “18th ground-breaking battle in world history.” – It is a great celebration and a beautiful anniversary, we shall remember our heroes and remain proud of our history - says Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Rocznica Bitwy Warszqwskiej

There is no doubt that the great victory, whose anniversary we are celebrating today, was a landmark for the history of reborn Poland. The Polish Army stopped and defeated the Red Army and saved Europe from the Soviet offensive.

We shall remember our heroes

– The Battle of Warsaw was recognised as the “18th landmark battle in the history of the world”, and it is one of the largest victories in the history of our country. Today's anniversary is a great holiday for all Poles. We should be grateful and proud, we should celebrate and remember our heroes - led by the Marshal Józef Piłsudski, as well as the people who had contributed to this great victory, whose names are not always known - appeals the minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Unusual commemoration

Due to the coronavirus pandemic the celebrations of the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw were different from what could be expected under typical circumstances. Some of the events will be held without the presence of the public or with a significant limitation of public participation, while other events will be held on-line.

The common slogan and hashtag #Wiktoria1920 encapsulates events such as opening the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek, a great multimedia event at the PGE National Stadium, a premiere of the VR film titled “Wiktoria 1920”, as well as the national documentation of the Miracle of the Vistula.
