PLN 1.65 billion for childcare spots. The number of care facilities continues to grow.

19.06.2020

Currently in Poland, every fourth child is attending a nursery. Compared to 2015, the rate of children at nurseries has increased by 93.5% and the number of nursing places has increased by nearly 100,000. - Supporting the development of networks of early childhood care institutions is extremely important. This allows parents to better reconcile family and professional life, without worrying about who will take care of their child. It is particularly pleasing to see that the institutions are also being set up in places where there have not been any such places so far," says Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

The last 5 years have been a time of a considerable development of the network of childcare institutions for children under 3 years of age in Poland.

- Five years ago, only 12.4% of children were attending nurseries. Today, the number has increased to 24%, which essentially means every fourth child. This also means an 93.5% increase. The data clearly shows a large development in that area in recent years. That was particularly due to the “Toddler+” programme which allowed to finance new, as well as to subsidise the existing nurseries - stresses Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

Nearly 100,000 spots at nurseries were created in 5 years

Today in Poland there are approximately 6.4 thousand nurseries for children under 3 years of age. This is an increase of 114.6% in comparison to 2015. At the time, there were only 3,000 nurseries.

As early as in 2015, the number of spots at nurseries, children's clubs and day carers across the country was less than 84 thousand. Today it has already reached 183.6 thousand, which means an increase of almost 100 thousand places.

- It is particularly pleasing that these institutions are also opening in Polish towns which had none such facilities before - points out the Head of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

On Thursday, the Deputy Minister of the Family Barbara Socha participated in the opening of the “Gucio” Municipal Nursery in Żabia Wola in the Mazovia Voivodeship, which was established due to the funding from the “Toddler+” programme. This is the first nurseries in that municipality.

- I am incredibly happy that the “Toddler+” programme allows us to give parents the opportunity to choose between family life and professional life - said Deputy Minister Barbara Socha during the opening ceremony of the nursery.

More money in support of childcare

- We realize how important it is for the number of childcare places to increase throughout Poland. That is why we have increased the expenditures for that purpose. Between 2011-2015, the expenditures amounted to PLN 493 million. Between 2016-2019 we have dedicated as much as PLN 1.65 billion for the “Toddler+” programme. This shows that matters related to the family, its safety and comfort are our priority - indicates Minister Marlena Maląg.
