Reskilling as an opportunity for employees and companies

31.01.2023

The Warsaw Stock Exchange presented the report „Reskilling” on reskilling of Polish employees. The presentation was accompanied by a debate „Reskilling of employees, corporate social responsibility or a solution to the absence of specialists?”, attended by Barbara Socha, Government Plenipotentiary for Demographic Policy.

Reskilling as an opportunity for employees and companies

The report shows that although more than 62% of companies give a very positive rating to reskilling, barriers and constraints are the reasons for which only 6% of employees have been reskilled. The recommendations stressed that if Polish companies did not start to act for improving the qualifications of their employees, their position in the world would be significantly weakened.

Keeping up with the market

Reskilling is one of the methods to keep up with the market, with what is happening in economies, with what is happening in the world – noted Deputy Minister Barbara Socha during the debate.

She added that the funds from the labour fund were redirected to the activation of passive persons, and this sometimes entailed some types of reskilling.

Men are less educated

Deputy Minister Socha reminded that among young people more than half of women and only 30% of men had higher education, so we have a large educational gap.

When keeping up with modern technologies and with rapidly developing modern sectors, there is a great opportunity to give also men better opportunities when it comes to the path of education – stressed the Deputy Minister.

Women return to work

She also referred to the situation of women who had withdrawn from the labour market for a long time in order to devote themselves to family life.

Women have various stages in life. The fact that for some time they want to shift „work-life balance” towards their family does not rule out the fact that in a several years they will move the „slider” in the other direction. But we should also promote part-time work – explained Deputy Minister Socha.
