Seniors will continue to receive support

16.10.2020

Nearly all areas of our lives had to undergo drastic changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. The current situation is particularly dangerous to the elderly, who are at the greatest risk of the virus. However, the elderly are not alone in these difficult times - they can still count on the support of their closest relatives. The use of latest technologies is particularly important for that purpose. - It not only allows to remain in contact with the other people but also guarantees safety for the elderly - says the Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg.

Seniors, please remain at home, ask for help

The seniors, who often struggle with various illnesses, are a particularly vulnerable group during the coronavirus pandemic. That is why Minister Marlena Maląg appeals to seniors to refrain from leaving their homes; however, if they absolutely must leave, for instance to go shopping, they should only leave during the dedicated hours (10 a.m. - 12 a.m.) and wear face masks. – We should also remember about the safety measures. We should wear masks, put on disposable gloves and maintain adequate distance - says the Minister.

Safe communication

In these difficult times, it is particularly important for the seniors to remain in constant contact with their closest relatives. In this context, we should stress that they can see others without leaving their homes. The only required devices include a computer, a smartphone, a table and an internet communicator with a video chat function.

– As wee can tell, current technology is useful not only to young people. It allows seniors to contact their close relatives and friends and to see each other. All of this is possible at a distance, without the need for direct contact - it allows to avoid putting their own health and the health of others at risk.

Remote medical examinations

Regardless of the situation, we must take care of the health of the elderly. For that reason, there are a number of possibilities allowing to avoid visiting a medical doctor. Remote consultations are one of these solutions. People who suspect a coronavirus infection may call the dedicated helpline of the National Health Fund, allowing them to obtain specific recommendations, and - if required - a suggestion to contact a sanitary and epidemiological station.

– We are facing difficult times which require special solutions. Remote consultations allow the elderly to receive the necessary help without having to leave their home and without putting their own well-being and the well-being of others at risk - stresses Minister Marlena Maląg.

Another solution includes the STOP COVID - ProteGo Safe application which helps in the struggle against the coronavirus. The application collects information on who the user meets and informs if the person has been in contact with an infected person. The application is completely safe and can be used free of charge.
