War also affects persons with disabilities

On 9 March, the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union organised in Paris a ministerial conference entitled „Improving accessibility and access to rights, implementing the EU Strategy 2021-2030”.

European priorities

The conference is an opportunity to raise, inter alia, the subjects such as the global health situation, social inclusion, participation and equal access to quality education, work and care, especially for persons with disabilities. They are among the most important European priorities.

The participants discussed the methods of using the existing achievements and the further increase in the participation of people with disabilities in social life, as part of the new European Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities.

Poland is represented by Deputy Minister Paweł Wdówik, Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People, who at the conference took the floor in the second panel entitled „Improving employment and education opportunities in a more inclusive EU”.

We cannot stay silent

In addition, Deputy Minister Wdówik, in the light of the current situation in Ukraine, presented the appeal of the Polish Government regarding the support for measures taken by Poland for the benefit of citizens of Ukraine: In view of the events happening behind the „door of our European home”, we cannot stay silent about the even more difficult situation of persons with disabilities, fleeing from the threats posed by the war and its consequences – stated the appeal.
