A new way of funding innovation. Critical Technology Support Fund competitions launched

30.06.2025

The first of 13 competitions planned for this year under the Critical Technology Support Fund has been launched. These are not just new competitions, but a completely new approach to funding innovation. Their aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of Polish enterprises by channelling funds to subsidise advanced technologies in key and strategic sectors for our economy. The budget for this year alone amounts to 1.84 billion from the European funds. Funding will be available to companies and research entities from all over the country.

The Critical Technology Support Fund is a new facility funded by the European Funds for the Modern Economy (FENG) programme. It was created in 2025 in response to the EU STEP - Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform. Its aim is not only to strengthen Europe's position worldwide, but also to build a stronger, more modern and more resilient economy in Poland.

It is an investment in our competitiveness, innovation and security - in the face of global challenges such as climate change, geopolitical crises or lack of access to key raw materials. As we build the independence of Europe, we also strengthen the independence of Poland.

What will be supported?

The fund focuses on support in three strategic sectors:

  • digital technologies and deep tech,
  • clean technologies and resource-efficient solutions,
  • biotechnologies, including medicines and active substances identified as critical to public health in the European Union.

Companies that plan to develop dual-use technologies - civilian and military - will also be eligible to apply for grants.

The following projects will be funded under the competitions:

  • research and development projects - run by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR),
  • investment projects - coordinated by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP).

The first calls for proposals have already started:

You can find the track of the call schedule HERE.

Why critical technologies?

Technologies are deemed critical if they meet one of two key criteria:

  • they introduce at least two of the following three elements to the European market: innovation, breakthrough or the highest level of modernity, closely linked to the significant economic potential of such a solution.
  • they contribute to the strategic economic independence of Poland and the European Union (helping to make the EU less dependent on key raw materials, components or technological solutions from outside the EU).

Purpose and significance of the Fund

The Critical Technology Support Fund is intended not only to support disruptive innovation, but also to strengthen value chains, technological sovereignty and the economic security of the European Union. Its task is to develop and produce cutting-edge technologies that are key to the green and digital transformation.
