03.09.2025

The state of implementation of regional programmes for 2021-2027 and the place of the cohesion policy in the future EU budget were among the main topics discussed at the Polish Marshals' Convention in Sulejów. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Jacek Karnowski.

The average level of contracting of funds in regional programmes is approaching 50 per cent, and in some regions it already exceeds 55 per cent.

The voivodship marshals concluded more than 15 thousand agreements with beneficiaries for co-financing of projects amounting to nearly PLN 70 billion. Money from the regional programmes supports, among others, the purchase of low-emission passenger rolling stock, the energy modernisation of buildings and many other activities improving the quality of life of citizens across Poland - Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Jacek Karnowski said.

Role of the cohesion policy in the EU budget

Deputy Minister Jacek Karnowski also referred to the ongoing debate on the EU forum concerning the multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034. According to him, the European Union cannot allow the cohesion policy to lose its relevance after 2027.

The cohesion policy is not the cost, but an investment in our future. And one that also pays off in practice. The latest Cohesion Report shows that every euro invested in the cohesion policy will triple by 2043 - stressed the deputy head of the MDFRP.

In this context, Deputy Minister Karnowski also drew attention to the particular role of the territorial dimension of the cohesion policy. It enables to tailor ongoing activities, investments and other projects to the diversified needs and potential of individual regions and their inhabitants.
