Over 5.6 billion zlotys from the NRP for the offshore wind farm
18.05.2026
The first foundations for Baltica 2 have already been installed. This marked the launch of the most advanced stage of installation works on the largest offshore wind farm on the Baltic Sea, currently under construction in Poland. Offshore wind is a stable source of zero-emission energy - ultimately, 2.5 million homes in Poland will be able to benefit from the clean energy generated by the Baltica 2 wind turbines.
The 1.5 GW Baltica 2 project will be located approximately 40 km off the coast, at a level of Ustka, within Poland’s exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea. It is built as a joint venture by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and the Danish company Ørsted. It is currently one of the most important energy transition projects in Poland and the key element in the development of the national renewable energy sector.
Energy for millions of Poles
The project will enhance the country’s energy security and energy sovereignty. Due to the farm, the volume of imported fuel will be reduced, and domestic companies will become involved in the development of a new sector of the economy to create new jobs.
The installation of the foundations for Baltica 2 launched in May this year, paves the way for further offshore work to commence in the coming months:
- the installation of export cables connecting the wind farm to the onshore connection infrastructure;
- the installation of offshore power stations;
- the installation of internal cables between the turbines;
- the installation of wind turbines.
A total of 111 monopiles will be installed on the sea – 107 for the turbines and 4 for the offshore substations. Construction will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
At the same time, onshore infrastructure is built in the municipality of Choczewo in Pomerania, including a substation and a connection system, which is essential for feeding power from the wind farm into the national transmission grid.
According to the schedule, the first electricity from the Baltica 2 farm will be generated in the first half of 2027, with full commercial operation planned for the end of 2027.
5.6 billion zlotys from the NRP for Baltica 2
The construction of the farm is co-funded by the National Recovery Plan.
PLN 9.9 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) has been allocated for the implementation of the project entitled, The construction of offshore wind farms (Offshore Wind Energy Fund); of this amount, approximately PLN 5.6 billion will be provided to Baltica 2 in the form of a loan.
In January 2025, BGK signed a loan agreement with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. for PLN 3.9 billion (which covers the borrower’s own contribution to the project) and a loan agreement with PGE Baltica 6 Sp. z o.o. (belonging to PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A.) amounting to EUR 385 million, i.e. approximately PLN 1.7 billion (the loan forms part of the financing for Baltica 2 within a consortium comprising other Polish and foreign banks and financial institutions).
