03.11.2022
‘The involvement of young people in the discussion on creating urban development was an important aspect of the World Urban Forum in Katowice (WUF11). Young people are one of our key partners in this debate. It is them who will live in the cities of the future’, Deputy Minister Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak said at the meeting with representatives of scientific circles who were actively involved in the preparations for the WUF11.
The audience occupy the chairs in the conference room. Deputy Minister Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak is on stage against a wall in the rostrum. Polish and EU flags can be seen next to her.
The Action Plan for Cities is the lasting legacy of WUF. The document was signed by representatives of 104 cities from all parts of Poland who want to promote sustainability in their local communities. It is a vision of urban transformation in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and recommendations of the New Urban Agenda.
The Toolkit for Local Communities is an important elements of the Action Plan for Cities.
On the one hand, the Toolkit is an online encyclopaedia containing a database of knowledge of city management processes and impact on urban space. On the other hand, it is an experience exchange platform that offers residents, community and urban activists an opportunity to communicate.
Representatives of academic scientific circles have edited the terms in the database.
Today, Deputy Minister for Development Funds and Regional Policy Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak met editors of the Toolkit and thanked them for their commitment to the initiative.
‘Collected knowledge and examples will help residents of Polish cities to influence the surrounding urban area and strengthen participatory activities in their local areas’,
Deputy Minister added.
The meeting was also an opportunity to present the National Urban Policy 2030 document and its implementation system to students. Initiatives and strategic projects of the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy (MFiPR) relating to urban policy were also presented.
We create the National Development Concept 2050
The second part of the meeting took the form of a workshop. It focused on the National Development Concept 2050 (KRK 2050) – a vision document created by MFiPR.
KRK 2050 will contain key challenges Poland is facing and possible development scenarios for the next thirty years.
This document is dedicated to the young generation as well and we would like it to reflect their perspective and expectations of the future of the country.
