Work on the new regional policy and the National Regional Development Strategy until 2035
10.12.2025
Poland and the European Union are facing new geopolitical challenges today. This requires a consistent commitment by key development policy actors - government and local government - to build our competitiveness, economic, climate and defence resilience. It is also necessary to further reduce disparities between regions and to strengthen their development capacities.
These are the main conclusions of the Assumptions of the new regional policy and the National Regional Development Strategy to 2035 (NRDS), presented on 10 December 2025 at the Territorial Dimension Sub-Committee meeting.
The meeting was opened by Monika Sikora, Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy. She stressed that the next stage would be the preparation of a draft National Regional Development Strategy which will set out the medium-term objectives and directions of Poland's regional policy.
The document will be developed in cooperation with the regions, ministries and representatives of local government associations. The draft will be distributed for public consultation in mid-2026 and is expected to be adopted by the Council of Ministers by the end of the year.
The draft assumptions of the new Regional Policy and National Regional Development Strategy 2035, is the result of almost a year of work carried out by the Sub-Committee and the Working Group on the Territorial Dimension and Regional Policy. It provides the basis not only for the NRDS, but also for the work on the National and Regional Partnership Plan - a key programming document for the new EU financial perspective after 2028.
It is important that we continue the dialogue with other ministries and local authorities at various levels at such an early stage of work on the new regional policy and the National Regional Development Strategy. Consequently, we will jointly agree on the directions of change and identify the objectives that best respond to the challenges and needs of the territories, also in relation to the EU budget for 2028-2034
- said Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Monika Sikora.
