Virtual Internet Governance Forum 2020 - on the Internet, about the Internet

The 15th World Forum on Internet Governance is starting. This year's edition is unique, and not only because it will be held for the first time completely online.

The picture shows a group of young people, women and men.

We were supposed to meet in Katowice, now we will meet on the Internet. But nothing is lost - several thousand people from all over the world will come to the capital of Upper Silesia next year. And what will the participants of this year's IGF (Internet Governance Forum) talk about?

Polish stage

IGF 2020 online is divided into two stages. The first one will take place from 2-6 November. This is when - within the so-called "day 0" - discussions and workshops preceding the main sessions will be organized.

And here it is worth mentioning our success. On almost 100 panels from all over the world, nearly 50 of them are projects organized by Polish entities.

We will discuss, among others, digital inclusion, data security and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our - users' - online behaviour. Check the agenda of Polish events.

What else is worth paying attention to then? Certainly the GovTech Festival, which promises to be an interesting event, where a unique Game Jam - an extraordinary event for game developers and fans- will be held.

Second phase

During the second stage of this year's IGF - from November 9 to 17 - there will be main sessions, a meeting of high-level leaders, a round table of parliamentarians and many thematic sessions on different topics.

Discussions will focus on the role of digital technologies in crisis situations and social inclusion in digital policy.

Poland will be represented by, among others, Marek Zagórski, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government plenipotentiary for cyber security.

The IGF has been organized since 2006. So far it has been held in Kenya, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Switzerland, France and Germany. Now it’s time for Poland!

Next year with us

As we mentioned, Poland will host the IGF in 2021. Our watchword is "Internet United", an open, free and undivided Internet where users can enjoy their rights without compromising their privacy.

We will meet in Katowice. We count on the attendance of many thousands of participants from all over the world and a good and open discussion on topics related to digital space.

IGF is an international initiative of the UN, which aims to initiate and facilitate a global discussion on the development of the Internet and on the most current and pressing phenomena related to its functioning. It will be attended by heads of state from all over the world, business representatives - including the largest and best known Internet companies from different continents- activists of non-governmental organizations and the scientific community. Theoreticians and practitioners.
