May 3rd Constitution Day Celebrated with a Family Picnic at the Residence of the Polish Ambassador in New Delhi
18.04.2026
On 18 April 2026, the gardens of the Polish Ambassador's Residence in New Delhi hosted a reception marking the 235th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May, combined with a family picnic.
The event drew a large turnout, including representatives of the diplomatic community, Indian partners, members of the Polish diaspora, and friends of Poland in India.
In his speech, Dr. Piotr Świtalski, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in India, spoke about the significance of the Constitution of 3 May as the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world, drawing on Poland's long parliamentary tradition and the lessons the short life of the 1791 document holds for contemporary debate on the rule of law. The Head of Mission also reflected on the particular significance of the Residence itself, formerly Kanika House, where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, co-author of the Indian Constitution, lived from 1947 to 1951, pointing to the symbolic kinship between the Polish and Indian constitutional heritage. He also referenced the joint Polish-Indian Axiom-4 space mission, which featured Sławosz Uznański and Shubhanshu Shukla, as evidence of the deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The picnic programme was designed with guests of all ages in mind. Team games, activities, and hands-on fun awaited the youngest attendees, while adults had the chance to sample traditional Polish dishes, including grilled sausages, pierogi, and cold beetroot soup. Musical entertainment was provided by a concert by Michał Rudaś, a Polish singer who has long drawn inspiration from Indian music: a fascination that has resulted in three albums ("Shuruvath", "Changing", "Mystic India"), and who is also known to Indian audiences as a semi-finalist on the show Dil Hai Hindustani.
Among the highlights of the event was a raffle for 350 participants, with the grand prize being a round-trip flight on the Delhi–Warsaw–Delhi route for two people, sponsored by LOT Polish Airlines.
The event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi in cooperation with the Polish Institute and commercial partners, including LOT Polish Airlines, ICEYE, WB Electronics, UFLEX, and MASPEX (Żubrówka).
