On February 4-6, 2025, chargé d'affaires a.i. Piotr Świtalski, together with a delegation from Poland, participated in the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in Kolkata, West Bengal. Poland was one of the partner countries at this year's BGBS summit, which is one of the key economic events in India to promote West Bengal as an attractive investment destination. The summit was attended by a large delegation from Poland (mainly from the Silesian Voivodeship), including representatives from the Ministry of Industry, the Upper Silesian Fund and the companies Martech, Patentus (Hintech), Węglokoks and Legally Smart. The Head of Mission spoke at the BGBS opening international session and took part in a Poland Country seminar.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Head of Mission held courtesy meetings with representatives of the West Bengalese government: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Industry Minister Shashi Panja, Chief Government Advisor Amit Mitra and West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) Director P.B. Salim. The talks focused on deepening economic cooperation, particularly in the areas of mining, energy and engineering.

West Bengal, as one of India's most business-attractive states, offers ample opportunities for economic cooperation. Its strategic location, developed infrastructure and booming sectors such as IT, mining and heavy industry as well as energy make it an attractive partner for Polish companies. In addition, the region's rich cultural and historical heritage creates prospects for cooperation in the areas of tourism and cultural exchange. Polish presence at BGBS was aimed at strengthening cooperation between Silesia and West Bengal, which is developing rapidly and has great potential, especially in the context of exploiting energy resources in the Deocha Pachami region. As a region, West Bengal remains a key element of Poland's economic strategy in India, and the meetings at BGBS were an important step towards its further development.
