Do I have to submit the documents in person?
Temporary passport applications must be submitted in person.
How to book an appointment?
You can book your appointment to apply for a temporary passport via the e-konsulat.
PLEASE NOTE: In an emergency (for example, in case of a death of a family member, sudden illness, lost or stolen documents and the need to urgently return to the place of permanent residence), call a consular post or send an e-mail describing your situation and attach the supporting documents. Please remember to specify your given name, surname, place of residence outside Poland and a phone in the e-mail.
What documents do I need to submit?
During your appointment at the consular post, you will make an electronic application for a child’s passport to be issued by a Polish consul. A consular employee will fill in the electronic form, and you will confirm the accuracy of the data by signing on the designated device (Signature Pad).
• A biometric colour photo—read what the photo should look like.
PLEASE NOTE: You must attach a photo to the application. If you do not attach the photo or if it does not meet the requirements, the consul will not accept your application.
• A valid passport or ID card (if issued) confirming your identity and Polish nationality.
NOTE: In case of reasonable doubts as to your identity, nationality or other details necessary to file the passport application, the consul may request that you submit additional documents.
REMEMBER! If you are planning to travel abroad with the temporary passport, check the current rules of entry and stay of foreigners in the country of destination. Make sure that you can cross the border with the temporary passport and check the required validity period (at entry and departure).

How to collect the documents?
In the consular office
You must collect your temporary passport in person. Arrange the collection date of your temporary passport with the consul
You can collect your passport personally in the office in which you filed the application.
On the date of collecting the new document, bring your previous passport (or temporary passport) to the consular office – the former passport document will be voided, except for pages containing valid visas, and returned to you.
You can collect the passport (without an appointment) during following hours on:
- Mondays 9.00-11.00 am
- Tuesdays 3.00-4.30 pm
- Wednesdays 9.00-11.00 am
- Thursdays 9.00-11.00 am
- Fridays 9.00-11.00 am
By post
Consider that you can no longer change the method of collecting the passport from personal to post once the application has been approved during your visit to the consulate.
If you choose to receive the passport by post, bring a “bubble” envelope (size A5/C5) and EUR 10 stamp(s) (one envelope for every single passport).
Remember to return the former valid passport to consular office. It will be voided before the consul sends a new one. The consul will return the voided document to you by dispatching it together with the new passport.
IMPORTANT! If you receive a passport document by post, YOU NEED TO ACTIVATE THE PASSPORT ON YOUR OWN using a dedicated electronic service. In order to activate the passport, you need Internet access, the number of your new passport and the application number (which can be found in the confirmation of filing a passport application).
If you are unable to activate the passport on your own you should notify our office (by email to: dublin.post@msz.gov.pl).
IMPORTANT! The consul will not mail your passport if you are staying outside the area of competence of the consular office that accepted the application.
Neither can the domestic passport authority (regional governor) send a passport to someone who is staying abroad.
The consul will refuse to issue a passport on the request of:
- a court that is conducting proceedings in a criminal case, proceedings concerning a fiscal crime, proceedings related to a minor or civil proceedings against the passport applicant,
- an authority conducting preliminary proceedings and an authority conducting enforcement proceedings in a criminal case, including proceedings concerning a fiscal crime, against the passport applicant.
In these two cases you may not appeal against the decision of the consul refusing to issue a passport document.
The consul refuses to issue a passport document when:
- based on the submitted documents and available registers, the passport authority did not confirm the details of the passport applicant to be entered into the passport document which have been stated in the application to issue a passport document;
- based on submitted documents and available registers, the passport authority did not confirm the citizenship of the person who filed the application to issue a passport document;
- the applicant failed to pay the required fee for a passport or temporary passport.
Refusal to issue a passport document is made by the consul by means of a decision.
PLEASE NOTE: The consul does not send passports to persons staying outside the consular district in which the application was filed. It is also not possible to send a passport issued by a domestic passport authority (province governor) to a person staying outside Poland.
How to appeal?
If the consul rejects your application for a temporary passport, you can appeal to the minister for internal affairs through the consul.
The consul refuses to issue a passport at the request of:
- the court which proceeds against the applicant with criminal or civil proceedings or with an action related to a tax offence or a minor;
- the authority which proceeds against the applicant with preliminary or execution proceedings in a criminal action including tax-related offences.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a temporary passport?
A temporary passport may be issued, for instance:
- if you are staying outside Poland and are waiting to collect your passport (if this is your wish and you apply for the temporary passport);
- in the event of an emergency (for example, to enable you to return to the place of your permanent residence, due to illness, funeral of a family member, or work-related matters) if you submit documents confirming the occurrence of the above circumstances, which require you to obtain the document urgently.
Can I apply for a temporary passport if I lost my personal ID card and my new 10-year passport is waiting to be collected in Poland?
You can apply for a temporary passport at a consulate. Remember to take with you the temporary passport issued by the consul as you return to Poland to collect the new one.
I lost my passport. What should I do now?
If you lost your passport or temporary passport, you must immediately inform the passport authority - the authority abroad is the consul.
On the day when you inform the consulate about the loss of passport, it becomes invalid.
Important! If you find the passport which you had reported lost in the consulate, you should immediately return it to the passport authority (to the consul, if you are abroad).
