20.04.2021

The Online In Control Foundation aims to educate the public about digital hygiene and prevention of internet addiction among children, teenager and adult. It communicates research findings, and conducts training courses, social campaigns and educational projects.

The Foundation organises lectures and training courses all over Poland, intended for nursery schools, schools and a variety of firms, as the problem of addiction to new technologies can affect any user, regardless of their age.

The Online in Control Foundation is made up of experts in sociology, psychology, pedagogy, neuroscience and social communication. This allows the Foundation to offer broad support to nursery schools, schools, municipalities and towns/cities, as well as to state institutions and private firms. The Foundation carries out, on its own or in collaboration with its partners, research into internet addiction, new technologies in education, and relationships in the digital world. Based on such research findings, it develops training curricula and educational materials, and designs social campaigns. The Foundation offers a variety of relevant auxiliary materials in the form of posters that can be downloaded from its website (https://dbamomojzasieg.pl/). These include, among other things, the principles of digital hygiene, information on excessive smartphone use or phonoholism symptoms.

Cooperation with schools has resulted in research projects entitled “The Digital Young” and “Digital Parents.” Each time, nearly two thousand educational institutions from ca. 300 counties took part in these projects, which translated into thousands of students aged 10 to 19. The Foundation also assists in designing and conducting social campaigns and research and educational projects covering the whole of Poland.

In February 2021, the Online in Control Foundation launched a project entitled “The Digitally Responsible School,” supporting schools in implementing new technologies in a responsible manner. The project fits in with the major directions of the state’s education policy for the school year 2020/2021, by making use of digital tools and content, and remote teaching methods in the education processes. Furthermore, it emphasizes safe and effective use of digital technologies and the pedagogical aspect of school activities. The focus is also on teaching values, shaping attitudes and respecting social norms.

The Digitally Responsible School is a community of students, parents and teachers who appreciate the value of striking a balance between the use of new technologies and intentional building of real relationships offline. When caring about such balance, we have a positive effect on the entire school community’s mental and physical well-being, says the project description.

To become a Digitally Responsible School, it is enough to develop skills in the following seven areas:

  1. Access to relevant and reliable knowledge about new technologies and the problems resulting from their excessive use.
  2. Creative and safe integration of information and communications technologies into the education process.
  3. Taking measures to prevent internet addiction and educate users in order to contain the damage resulting from the use of web content.
  4. Working together to develop and implement the principles of using the internet at school.
  5. Developing a culture of being intentionally offline.
  6. Learning the skills of the future.
  7. Implementing socially responsible projects.
