55 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and Malta
23.10.2026
To mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Malta, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Valletta organised the Polish-Maltese Musical Encounter concert at the historic Palazzo de la Salle. Organised in collaboration with Karl Fiorini, the concert's Artistic Director, the event highlighted the role of music and culture in fostering dialogue between nations and provided an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding friendship and close ties between Poland and Malta.
A Musical Encounter to Mark the Anniversary
Culture enables nations to meet beyond the boundaries of language and everyday experience. It creates opportunities for mutual understanding, the discovery of shared values and the building of relationships based on respect for different traditions and cultural heritage. In this way, cultural dialogue becomes an important dimension of diplomacy, giving international relations not only a political, but also a deeply human character.
The concert offered a special occasion to celebrate the longstanding relationship between Poland and Malta and to highlight the role of culture in bringing the two nations closer together. Transcending linguistic and geographical boundaries, music created a space in which Polish and Maltese artistic traditions could meet and complement one another.
Poland and Malta on One Stage
The audience enjoyed performances by Polish pianist Julia Miller and Maltese violinist Kurt Falzon, who presented a programme bringing together the richness of Polish and European musical heritage with works by composers associated with Malta.
The programme featured compositions by Joseph Vella, Karl Fiorini, Eugène Ysaÿe, Frédéric Chopin and Henryk Wieniawski. This combination of works showcased the diversity of European musical traditions, the distinctive voices of individual composers and the power of music as a universal language of communication.
The works of Polish composers, whose music forms an important part of Europe’s cultural heritage, held a special place in the programme. The inclusion of compositions by Maltese composers, meanwhile, highlighted the local context of the event and the importance of discovering and appreciating each other’s artistic achievements.
Building Diplomatic Relations through Culture
Fifty-five years of diplomatic relations represent a history of growing cooperation and exchange between Poland and Malta. This anniversary provides an opportunity not only to reflect on achievements to date, but also to look ahead and explore new avenues for collaboration.
The concert served as a reminder that lasting relations between nations are built not only on shared interests, but also on mutual understanding, trust and openness to one another’s cultures. Artistic initiatives create opportunities for direct encounters, enrich dialogue between societies and lay the foundations for cooperation that extends beyond the formal framework of diplomacy.
Celebrating Together and Looking to the Future
The evening at Palazzo de la Salle reflected the values that have long brought Poland and Malta together: dialogue, mutual respect and the belief that cultural diversity is a source of enrichment and inspiration.
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland extends its sincere thanks to the artists, Julia Miller and Kurt Falzon, for the exceptional musical performances, to Karl Fiorini for his contribution as Artistic Director, and to all the guests who joined us in commemorating this important anniversary.
May the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and Malta serve as an inspiration to further strengthen friendship, cooperation and cultural exchange, paving the way for future encounters that bring our nations closer together and deepen the bonds between them.
