Polish Heritage Days in Malta

On 6th of May the Picnic for the Polish Diaspora living in Malta was held at De La Salle College in Birgu. The Polish Heritage Days celebrations were organized in connection with the Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad, the Polish Flag Day and the 232nd Anniversary of the May 3rd Constitution. It was attended by over 400 people.

The program of the picnic included various artistic events as well as educational and sports activities.

During the event, there was a concert of Kasia Cerekwicka, a Polish singer, who performed with the accompaniment of pianist Marcin Cichocki. During the picnic, an ethnographic photo exhibition entitled "Cheerful village, calm village" by the Polish historian Paweł Roszak-Kwiatek was also presented. In addition to the presentation of the exhibition, Mr. Roszak-Kwiatek also presented the participants of the event with a lecture about Captain. Witold Pilecki, patron of the Polish Heritage Days, in connection with two anniversaries related to this figure falling this year - the 80th anniversary of his escape from Auschwitz and the 75th anniversary of his death. During the event, works by D. Krzeszewska, a Polish artist creating artistic jewelery and living in Malta, were also presented.

To emphasize the Polish nature of the event, during the picnic, there were played hits of Polish music, presented by a Polish DJ who creates and works in Malta - R. Korzeniewski (Mr. Root).

As part of educational activities for children, art workshops were held, during which children could make occasional cotillions from creative sets and learn about the history of the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, filling in the cards of the publication entitled. "May 3rd Constitution for Coloring". In addition, activities for children were prepared on "Polska piece by piece", during which they could put together a map of Poland from puzzles.

In addition, culinary workshops on making dumplings were organized especially for children, and several Polish citizens who are members of the Maltese pro-ecological NGO "Żibel" organized first aid demonstrations for young participants. 

Numerous sports and recreational activities were also held during the picnic. Basketball classes, badminton tournament, running competitions, including a family relay race, were organized for children and adults. There were also Zumba classes and training on stationary bikes, conducted by qualified Polish trainers living in Malta.

Bouncy castles were also available for children throughout the picnic. Each participant of sports and educational activities received a commemorative medal specially designed for this occasion. In addition, Polish citizens operating in the beauty industry in Malta - Monika Jarosińska, an actress and singer running the "Cavi Lipo Malta" salon, and Angelika Wysmyk, the owner of the "Dr Mila Clinic" presented the participants of the picnic with lectures on a healthy lifestyle and beauty treatments.

During the picnic, Polish catering and catering companies operating in Malta served traditional dishes of Polish cuisine.
