"Qlubija: The Courage to Learn - A Collaborative Artistic Event for Refugee Week Malta 2026”

25.05.2026

On 25 May, as part of the preparations for World Refugee Week 2026, Blue Door Education and The VX-Foundry organized the special event "Qlubija: The Courage to Learn.” The gathering took place as part of Refugee Week Malta, with the support of Arts Council Malta, creating a space for artistic and social activities focused on migration, identity, and collaboration.

Participation and International Collaboration

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Valletta also took part in the event, highlighting the importance of intercultural dialogue and building solidarity across borders.

Participants — students and volunteers representing more than 15 nationalities — jointly created a space based on the exchange of experiences, openness, and mutual learning.

Creative Process and Participant Activities

The central element of the event was a collaborative creative process. Participants worked side by side, combining different forms of artistic expression with personal stories.

The shared activities were not merely an art workshop, but also a form of dialogue in which art became a language of understanding and relationship-building.

“Statement Bunting” Installation

The result of this collaboration is the large-scale installation “Statement Bunting,” created from:

  • recycled materials
  • participants’ personal stories
  • individual life experiences

The project combines elements of contemporary art and social testimony, creating a space for reflection on migration and community.

The installation will be presented during World Refugee Week 2026 and SparkFest.

Meaning and Message

“Qlubija: The Courage to Learn” demonstrates that the process of building community is rooted in collaboration, listening, and presence.

Every stitch, brushstroke, and conversation becomes part of a larger whole in which diversity does not divide, but strengthens.

In this perspective, the refugee experience is not limited solely to displacement — it also encompasses the process of finding a place, creating relationships, and building a new identity within society.
