300 Orlik sports facilities refurbished
29.08.2025
300 Orlik sports facilities have already been refurbished under the Ministry of Sport and Tourism's Programme of My pitch - Orlik 2012 sports facilities modernisation. Further 1,042 Orlik facilities are currently undergoing refurbishment. The opening of the 300th Orlik pitch was accompanied by a press conference in Bytom, attended by Minister of Sport and Tourism Jakub Rutnicki, Mayor of Bytom Mariusz Wołosz, Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism Piotr Borys, Senator Halina Bieda and Deputy Minister of Science Marek Gzik.
Within this year’s edition of My pitch - Orlik 2012 sports facilities modernisation programme, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism has allocated PLN 144 million for the refurbishment of 377 Orlik pitches. 53 of them will be extended by additional structures.
This will be possible thanks to the broadening of the modernisation programme, in 2024, by the option to extend Orlik facilities by new sports structures (e.g. a skate park, pump track, circular or straight running track, other element of athletics infrastructure, fitness playground, additional pitch or tennis court).
We want to demonstrate that we take action and do good things for children and young people. A major event, EuroBasket is starting soon in Katowice. Yet, if we want to continue having top players in the country, appropriate sports infrastructure is needed
- said minister Jakub Rutnicki during the press conference.
I am pleased that a few years ago the revitalisation and renovation of Orlik facilities started, as it was expected by everyone. Today, we are at a beautiful renovated Orlik. It is already the 300th Orlik facility refurbished and put into use as part of the governmental revitalisation programme. Top-level sport starts in our towns and small clubs, including at Orlik pitches
- added minister Rutnicki.
In Śląskie Voivodeship alone, 67 Orlik facilities are currently under renovation and 24 have already been modernised. In this year’s edition of the programme, 21 Orlik facilities from Śląskie Voivodeship have been selected for modernisation.
Our ambition at the ministry is to provide support to every Orlik facility in Poland, which is in need of renovation. We invite local governments from all over Poland to participate in the recruitment process next year. Orlik sports facilities should change into family activity zones
- said Minister of Sport and Tourism.
Sports infrastructure should mean smiling and healthy kids
- emphasized the minister.
The opening of the Orlik facility was accompanied by an event organised as part of the Active School programme, the largest physical activation programme of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, addressed in particular to children and young people.
On Thursday, 28 August the Polish basketball team played the EuroBasket 2025 opening match against Slovenia. Therefore, the event at the Orlik pitch included also activities related to basketball.
