51 days to the Olympic Games. Minister Jakub Rutnicki met with Polish sports federations

51 days are left until the opening of the XXV Winter Olympic Games Milan-Cortina 2026. On Wednesday, 17 December 2025 at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism a meeting was held of Minister of Sport and Tourism Jakub Rutnicki and Deputy Minister Piotr Borys with presidents of Polish winter sports federations whose athletes have qualified for the Olympic Games.

Minister of Sport and Tourism Jakub Rutnicki pointed out that last Friday, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism announced the Olympic programme for 2026 with a budget of PLN 185 million. Of this amount, PLN 28.4 million, which is 1 million more than in 2025, has been allocated to winter Olympic sports.

The Ministry of Sport and Tourism is the largest sponsor of Polish sport, 

– emphasised minister Rutnicki.

Between 2023 and 2026, the Ministry allocated a total of over PLN 115 million to winter Olympic sports under the Olympic programme. The funds are earmarked for the preparation of Poland’s national team athletes for taking part in the Olympic Games and world championships or European championships in Olympic sports.

The minister emphasised that the ministry takes account of the needs voiced by the sports community and the federations and has thus brought forward the publication of the Olympic programme for 2026. This will allow the Polish federations to draw up their plans and conclude grant agreements for the next year earlier. 

58 qualifications for the Polish national team

Konrad Niedźwiecki, head of the Polish Olympic Mission informed that at present, the Polish national team has 58 qualifications for the XXV Winter Olympic Games Milan-Cortina 2026. He pointed out that athletes from all Polish federations of winter Olympic sports scored points during this season. Most points, 24, were won in speed skating and 15 in short track.

The last Olympic qualifications in winter sports will end on 18 January 2026. By 21 January, the Polish sports federations have to adopt resolutions on the composition of their national teams for the upcoming Games.
