A new opening for Polish tourism - key decisions from the Polish Senate
02.12.2025
At the Polish Senate, a meeting devoted to the future of tourism in Poland was held, which was attended by representatives of the government, the parliament, experts and representatives of the industry. The Ministry of Sport and Tourism was represented by Secretary of State Ireneusz Raś who presented current data on the sector and its key development directions.
The minister pointed to the dynamic growth in tourist traffic both in Poland and worldwide. According to UN Tourism, in the first half of 2025 the global number of travellers increased by 5 per cent year-on-year and exceeded the pre-pandemic levels. In Poland, the sector has also achieved record results, with the regions of Małopolska, Pomerania and Western Pomerania being the main destinations for visitors. More frequent short trips and spontaneous decisions to travel are growing in popularity.
During the event, the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and Statistics Poland was announced. The agreement is focused on the development of modern statistical and analytical tools for improved monitoring of tourist traffic and more effective planning of the public sector’s activities in this area. The document was signed by Secretary of State Ireneusz Raś and President of Statistics Poland Marek Cierpiał-Wolan. Closer cooperation with Statistics Poland is a major step towards building a coherent system of information on tourism as a key sector of the country’s economy.
The Ministry also presented the concept of the “House of Regional Brands”, a new project aimed at integrating the tourism offers of Poland’s regions and strengthening their visibility on the tourism market. The proposed platform is intended to facilitate tourists’ access to information and services and to support the development of local tourism brands. The project has been referred for further consultations.
We are a modern and safe country where tourism accounts for nearly 5 per cent of GDP, and we want the share to continue rising. We are inviting you to support the great opportunity to promote our home country by hosting Olympic and Paralympic Games. We want Poland to organise the main sports event in the world. This should be done with the agreement of us all. We must unite around the games. They would be a great opportunity for the development and promotion of our country and all its regions,
- said Minister Jakub Rutnicki.
During the meeting, a debate on short-term rentals was also held. The Ministry presented the aims of the works on a uniform system of registration and supervision of tourist establishments, which is intended to better organise the market and facilitate tourist traffic management by local governments. The discussion focused also on European solutions that can serve as role models for drafting our national regulations.
The panel on cooperation between the HORECA sector and agriculture emphasised the growing role of local products and sustainable approach to tourism. The third part of the meeting was devoted to the introduction of a nationwide tourist tax. According to local governments and experts, it could become an important tool for managing tourist flows and counteracting excessive loads on the most popular destinations.
The event was attended e.g. by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of Sport and Tourism Jakub Rutnicki, Chairman of the Deregulation Committee Ryszard Petru and Chairman of the Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism Committee Tadeusz Tomaszewski.
