27.06.2023

Three Polish restaurants have been awarded prestigious Michelin stars, seven have received the title of Bib Gourmand, and thirty-nine have been judged worthy of recommendation. The Michelin Plaque award ceremony, attended by Deputy Minister Andrzej Gut-Mostowy, was held on June 27 in Poznań.

“This is a new opening in the promotion of Polish gastronomy. Thanks to the engagement of the Polish Tourism Organisation, we are now entering the next stage of culinary tourism in our country. Poland’s gastronomy is of high quality, as is Polish food the taste and quality of which is appreciated by connoisseurs. Our presence in the guide is a natural step in strengthening the position of Polish cuisine on the culinary world map”,

- said Andrzej Gut-Mostowy, Prime Minister’s plenipotentiary for the Polish brand promotion.

The Polish Tourism Organisation, together with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, has been promoting Polish cuisine for years, focusing on hospitality and locality.

“In line with the opinions of the industry and the regions, we have signed a letter of intent to safeguard the continuity of the promotion activities as well as the Michelin Guide’s expansion into other regions. The selection for Michelin Guide 2023 has confirmed that Poland is among countries that look after its culinary culture heritage”,

- added President of the Polish Tourism Organisation Rafał Szmytke.

The agreement with Michelin provides for the possibility of adding other regions (two or three per year) to the guide, of course after receiving a positive result of a culinary audit.

This year, the Polish Tourism Organisation is planning a number of promotion activities in Poland and abroad. They will focus on the three cities listed in the prestigious Michelin Guide, and will aim to promote Poland’s local products and multicultural cuisine. Culinary tourism is a magnet for tourists from all over the world. The Michelin brand is the best recognised symbol and guarantee of high-quality dining. The guide, present in over 30 countries, is a hallmark of fine cuisine that is widely present in Poland.

“I warmly congratulate the restaurants that have been appreciated and certified by the Michelin Guide. In a natural way, they have become the ambassadors of Poland’s gastronomy. This is a unique time for the Polish brand and its expansion, and for the development of culinary tourism on the international market.”

“Tourists appreciate good cuisine and, when travelling, select destinations based on Michelin recommendations.”

- emphasised the deputy minister.

This is shown by figures:

80% of tourists believe that in gastronomy, Michelin stars are an equivalent of Oscar awards in the film industry.

  • two-thirds of travellers would choose a destination based on Michelin recommendations;
  • 57% of travellers would extend their stay based on Michelin recommendations;
  • 71% of travellers would spend more money, on average by around EUR 40, based on Michelin recommendations.

The Michelin Guide brand and its recommendations are an invaluable magnet attracting cuisine lovers not only from Europe, but from all over the world.

The cooperation between the Polish Tourism Organisation and the Michelin Guide brings a number of benefits. They include the development of infrastructure and transport, promotion of regional culinary traditions and local food market, attracting investors in the hospitality sector, increasing the quality of services provided, rising the prestige of Polish cities worldwide and attracting foreign tourists.

The promotion of Warsaw, Kraków and Poznań as a result of their inclusion in the international publication also provides development opportunities for the industry staff. In order to keep up with the newest trends and requirements of guests and inspectors looking for the best tastes and quality cuisine, the gastronomy sector’s staff will have to continuously extend their knowledge and improve their skills.

The MICHELIN guide - culinary tourism

The MICHELIN Guide, whose first edition was published in 1900, is a culinary guide for professionals and consumers alike. The guide is present in over 38 countries. For years, it has awarded stars to restaurants in the appreciation of high-quality and unique culinary experience offered by them. Thereby, it has also encouraged visitors to promote these exceptional places. Michelin’s in-depth knowledge of the industry plays a key role here as all inspectors, when assessing the quality of a restaurant, use the same unique criteria, regardless of its location. To date, more than 16,000 establishments have been selected and over 3,000 restaurants worldwide have been awarded stars for the best dining experience.
